Payroll

Our 15-strong Payroll team processes the pay for all 18,000 UK-based employees of Superdrug Stores plc and Savers Health and Beauty Ltd, as well as the Superdrug store staff in five Eire stores.

Staff attendance records are submitted electronically from more than 1,130 stores, from the distribution centres and from office departments. Depending on which area of the business and their staff banding level, the team pays employees weekly, fortnightly or monthly, with a payslip sent to each employee via the internal mail system.

The team is passionate about delivering the correct pay on the right day to all staff.

Financial Control

Financial Control maintains full accounting records with high integrity, in an uncompromised, secure finance environment, while providing finance processing and reporting support and prompt, professional, efficient service to the business.

There are five qualified accountants, two part-qualified accountants and teams looking after specific aspects of finance to ensure that day-to-day operations run smoothly and that business operations are supported effectively. The team's key responsibilities are to ensure that financial controls are in place and that financial performance can be reported reliably and quickly from the information processed.

The Corporate Reporting team finalises management accounts for Superdrug Stores plc, Savers Health and Beauty Ltd and other minor companies, three days after every month-end when they also report to, A.S. Watson & Co Ltd., the Hong Kong based parent company. Every quarter-end the team also completes a detailed quarterly information pack for electronic submission to A.S. Watson & Co Ltd. Other responsibilities include cashflow monitoring, fixed asset reporting and production of the statutory annual accounts.

A Tax Manager looks after the tax compliance matters relating to corporation tax and VAT, and works on tax planning with A.S. Watson and external tax advisers.

The Store Accounts team reconciles more than £1,500m sales takings each year, with the tender types (cash, credit and debit cards, coupons and vouchers), reconciles bank statements and processes stock-take results. Stores in Superdrug and Savers operate cash management systems for which the team also provide operational support.

The Expense Accounts team is responsible for processing all non-merchandise invoices, such as utilities, rents, rates, temporary pharmacists, travel, accommodation, etc. All invoices are scanned, electronically sent to managers for approval, and then processed for payment.

The Commercial Accounts team is responsible for processing all merchandise invoices - more than 95% of the invoices processed by EDI. The team helps Buyers and suppliers when there is a problem with the electronic matching of purchase orders, delivery notes and supplier invoices due to incorrect quantities or pricing, and it is responsible for sales invoicing and collection of debts.

The Central Processing Administration team is responsible for the data integrity of supplier and product set-ups.

Financial Planning

Split into four key areas, this team strives to provide insightful business reporting, analysis and planning in order for all key functions to make the right decisions. The team is made up of 20 people ranging from non-studiers to part and qualified accountants.

Commercial Finance consists of a team of seven whose main customers are the Buying and Marketing teams. Key focus is sales and margin with emphasis placed on value added analysis.

Retail Finance is a Team of six whose main customers are the stores and regional structures and their main focus is controlling the cost base within the stores.

Planning and Investments team of three acts as the main point of contact with our holding Companies in Hong Kong. Key deliverables include an annual budget and quarterly forecast processes.

Savers Finance (based in Dunstable) comprises a team of three dealing with all aspects of our sister Company's performance and planning. Financial planning is at the heart of the organisation and offers everyone in the team the opportunity to develop all aspects of financial control and analysis.

Audit

Supporting the Retail functions to produce added value, Audit identifies, assesses, and mitigates the business risks inherent within the Store Operations structure, including Distribution Centres and Head Office, where it interfaces with Store Operations, to improve controls and processes.

Focused on and passionate about, compliance and process, the team advocates and shares best practice by coaching on an individual store basis or at a corporate level.
