Human Resources
It's our people who make us what we are and our HR teams helps us to recruit, develop, reward and retain the best. We truly believe that it is our people who make a difference to our customers every single day, so to make the most of this vital resource there are several teams in HR.

This team works in collaboration with people at all levels in our business, partnering each function and fostering a culture of coaching, mentoring and support to offer a credible and professional service to everyone. The team offers strategic, proactive and tailored support in such areas as Recruitment, Retention, Employee Relations, Training & Development, Talent Management, Change Management, Employee Welfare and Engagement. The Head Office and Distribution team is committed to working as true business partners to the entire business and adding commercial value to all the other teams.
The core team within Retail HR includes a Retail Manager, five HR Business Partners and five HR Advisors each aligned to the five regions. The team are responsible for advising and supporting approximately 14,000 employees from the Regional General Manager to Sales Advisors in all aspects of HR. Based all across the country, no two days are ever the same, be it coaching on managing teams, advising on policy and best practise, delivering training or opening new stores.
The Resourcing team comprises a Senior Resourcing Manager who covers Pharmacy staff and the recruitment of Area Managers, plus three Resourcing Managers each of whom is responsible for an assigned region within the UK. Together, they are responsible for interviewing candidates for all management roles and are involved in succession planning and the selection of applicants for our highly effective management trainee and development programmes. They also train all new Store Managers in how to recruit their own teams, so all in all these are very busy and interesting challenges.
Learning & Development at Superdrug is big business - we offer extensive training and development for people at all levels. Based at Head Office as well as out in the field the Learning & Development team is responsible for designing, delivering and monitoring all of our training programmes. These include: our brand new 'Team Academy' induction for Sales Advisers, which, coupled with 'Beauty Academy' & 'Health Academy', is a fantastic programme that helps our Sales Advisers to gain specialist product knowledge; our hugely successful 'Retail Management Training Programme', which is designed for those who wish to progress to their first Management position, and has the added bonus of a nationally recognised qualification attached; also, our extensive 'Aspire' programmes, which are designed to develop individuals who want to climb the career ladder with us.
The team is constantly looking for ways to develop our people further, and they are always involved in the latest Company projects and initiatives. This involves working alongside the Regional and Area Managers in Retail, and our network of Sponsor Managers who assist in the delivery of regular training across the country.
If it's variety that you seek, there's never a dull moment in L&D!
The HR Services team provides operational support and strategic direction for Employee Relations and Employee Reward and Recognition for both Superdrug and Savers. It also looks after Internal Communications and HR Management Information. The team is responsible for ensuring that all Company people policies and procedures comply with UK employment law, and for administering annual salary review and bonus schemes for Retail, Head Office and Distribution.
Other responsibilities include: the development and communication of an employee benefits programme, which includes a defined contribution pension plan; the internal communications strategy and communication events such as 'Tuesday Newsday'; and the co-ordination and management of a number of HR processes, including those for new starters, where they ensure that all new employees receive staff discount cards when they join the Company.
At Superdrug, we believe that learning and development is a life-long process. For many of our people, a successful and enriching career starts with one of our apprenticeship programmes, in which learning by doing leads to recognised national qualifications and the key to a far-reaching career.
We are proud to support the Government Skills Pledge and have signed in public our commitment to train and develop all of our employees. We also represent the Retail industry in the UK at a strategic level and are an acknowledged leader in retail apprenticeships.
Driving and developing our Apprenticeship Programme, this team of Operational, Quality, and Business Development Managers, Assessors, and Co-ordinators is an exciting place to be and we are continually taking new initiatives to help us grow and refine our training offering.
