But however much we spend on the latest state of the art systems, unless people can work with them effectively, and unless they serve our business needs and not vice versa, and unless we maintain them in perfect order and they're always available, it's money down the drain.

The IT Services team protects our investment by making sure that we make best use of technology. This large team of 35 supports systems users to make sure that they make the best use of our IT applications and infrastructure.

By maintaining the infrastructure cost effectively, the team ensures that it is an enabler of progress and not a brake on success. In this way the team supports and leads business change by improving processes and finding innovative ways to use technology for the good of the business.

It's a friendly but very fast moving environment in which every day is different and no two problems are the same.

Typical of the skills required are ITIL Service Management, Windows, MS Office products, SQL, Network Technologies, Vmware, Retalix, Epos, Oracle DBA, Oracle Ebis, AIX and Solaris, People Management and Project Management.

It's a fast moving and highly innovative area when no-one can afford to stand still if we're to keep up and maintain our technical and commercial advantage.

Part of the overall IT department, our IT Development team keeps us a step ahead. We manage development projects that are worth anything from £3-4k to £3-4m and often have 10-20 projects running in any given year.

Our job is to enable business change and drive increasing success by providing project and application management, system development and testing, post implementation support and business analysis.

It's an area that needs quick thinking, fast acting people with attention to detail, and the ability to analyse and understand business processes and requirements. We plan, organise and manage change effectively, operating at pace but also managing risks carefully.

Around 30 people work in IT Development and although we have low turnover, when opportunities do arise, it's a great department for people who want to work with latest systems, develop modern IT skills, and work alongside talented colleagues.
