Pharmacy Assistants

Buttercups Counter Assistant course is compulsory for any Sales Adviser who wants to work on the pharmacy counter (even if only for a few hours a week).

Sales Advisers working on the pharmacy counter must register onto this course within 3 months of starting in pharmacy. The course delivers an accredited certificate to validate training as a Pharmacy Assistant and is the first step in achieving other roles in pharmacy such as Dispensing Assistant or Dispenser.

NVQ Pharmacy Service Level 2

Our pharmacy services courses are aimed at team members who are looking for the next step in pharmacy as either a Dispensing Assistant (Level 2) or a Dispenser (Level 3).

Anyone interested in these courses will be required to have firstly successfully completed the Buttercups Medicine Counter Assistant course or equivalent. If you are interested in the Pharmacy Level 3 course in addition you must have successfully completed the Level 2 Pharmacy Services course or equivalent.

NVQ Pharmacy Service Level 3

Level 3 Diploma in Pharmacy Service Skills (QCF) and the General Pharmaceutical Council, (GPhC) accredited Technical Certificate.

This QCF Level 3 qualification is for team members who spend the majority of their working time in the dispensary and who have already completed Level 2 (or equivalent). Usually this is for Dispensing Assistants ready to become Dispensers. Superdrug uses a Buttercups online training course to deliver this and you can work through at your own pace, however the course usually takes 2 years to complete. This is an A level equivalent qualification.

Pharmacy Accuracy Checker Course

This qualification is suitable for Dispensers trained to NVQ Level 3 who are working in a pharmacy where there is another Dispenser or Dispensing Assistant whose work can be checked.

This is especially useful in stores that have a lot of monitored dosage systems (MDS). Superdrug uses a Buttercups online training course to deliver this and you can work through at your own pace, however the course usually takes between 4 - 12 months to complete.

Pharmacy Pre-Registration Programme

Superdrug offers a pre-registration programme to team members who have achieved a pharmacy degree (MPharm).

The pre-reg programme is fully supported by the Superdrug Pharmacy team so that you can successfully achieve your full qualification and become registered as a Pharmacist. At the end of the programme any suitable vacancies will be discussed with you so that you start your career with us. The programme is a mix of on-the-job training, supported by a pre-reg Pharmacy Sponsor, and residential workshops led by a dedicated tutor in order to learn clinical knowledge. At the end of the successful completion of the course you will achieve full qualification and registration as a Pharmacist.
