“I’ve never had a dull day.”
Describe your career path at Superdrug
I joined the company when I was 15 as Saturday staff and stayed all the way through college until I was 18. I was then given more hours and offered a Supervisors position. After progressing to Assistant Manager I was offered my first store when I was 20.
I’m now managing a store with one of the busiest pharmacies in the country.
There is great training on offer if you want to come in and work your way up. There are programmes for every step of the way.
What does your job involve?
Where do I start? You really need to be able to multi-task to be a manager. In all the years I’ve been working for Superdrug I’ve never had a dull day. There’s always something going on. The people who work here have all got energy and drive.
Would you recommend Superdrug as an employer and why?
I would. I think you have to be a certain type of person; you have to be fun and friendly and you have to be fast!
“I get excited about coming to work.”
Why did you join Superdrug?
I needed a Saturday job while I was still studying and Superdrug had the best uniforms!
What does your job entail now?
Everything! I supervise the staff and give them tasks, I do some back office work, sort out the warehouse and support the Store Manager.
How do you aim to progress within Superdrug?
I’ve only just become an Assistant Manager but I’d love to become a Store Manager. My next step would be to work as an Assistant Manager in a bigger store, as Porth is one of the smaller stores, and show I'm capable of being a Store Manager.
Would you recommend Superdrug as an employer?
Yes, I get excited about coming to work! The stores are run very well and new starters get so much help and support. There’s always something for people to aim for.
How would you describe Superdrug?
For me it’s the best place to work. It’s fun, exciting and fast – there’s always something going on.
"Superdrug has something unique."
When did you join Superdrug?
I joined when I was 17 and I’m now 31! I was a Sales Assistant on 4 hours at our Rochdale store.
So what happened?
It was just a Saturday job to start with but I really enjoyed it so I kept working for Superdrug while I was doing my A Levels and during my four years at university. When I finished, Superdrug offered me an Assistant Manager job and I’ve never looked back!
I really enjoyed the retail management side of things so I took a secondment opportunity as a Store Manager for 6 months and after that I was offered my own store. I worked in a few different stores as Store Manager and then my next step was to become an Area Manager, which is my role today.
What is it like to work at Superdrug?
Very hands on, a lot of fun and it’s good to have control of what you’re doing. You are given the autonomy to do things your own way as long as you deliver.
Would you recommend Superdrug as an employer?
Definitely, yes! Superdrug has something unique, it’s not afraid to try new things and if it doesn’t work then you just move on. It’s very different to other retailers.
