What is an apprenticeship?

An apprenticeship is a way into a skilled job, giving you experience in the workplace and a chance to carry on learning and gain an industry recognised qualification. You will gain confidence, key workplace skills and grow your personal skills as well.

Who are apprenticeships for?

Anyone over the age of 16 can apply for an apprenticeship. They are not just for school leavers, age isn’t a barrier and if you have tried something else at college you can still look at an apprenticeship as a way to build more skills. There will be eligibility requirements that will differ for different types or levels of apprenticeship.

What apprenticeships do Superdrug offer?

At Superdrug we offer award winning apprenticeships at different levels across different areas of our business.

What are the working hours for the Apprentice?

Retail requires flexibility and this is reflected in the programme.

An Apprentice Retail Sales Adviser works 30 hours a week, usually for 6-7 hours a day, your shifts and days of work will vary. Expect to be working on Saturdays, it’s our busiest day!!!

An Apprentice Team Leader works a minimum of 20 hours per week, in a variety of shifts that support the business so you must be flexible! As above, weekends will be required.

A Head Office Apprentice generally works 37.5 hours per week in office hours, typically 9am – 5.30pm to align with their team but there can be variations of this.

Who can apply?

Anyone over the age of 16 can apply for our apprenticeships. For our current roles we require a Grade 4 in English and Maths at GCSE level (or equivalent). Apprenticeships are all about learning so we look for applicants that are new to retail or have limited experience as we want you to get the most out of it if you are starting as a Retail Sales Adviser.

What are the salary and benefits?

For our Apprentice Sales Adviser roles we offer from £6ph - £6.70ph dependent on location.

For Apprentice Team Leader roles we offer the Team Leader pay rate from the beginning – from £9.26 an hour dependent on location.

For our Head Office apprenticeships we offer a competitive salary (higher than Apprentice Minimum Wage) of up to £18,000 pa.

Its not all about salary though, we have a great package of benefits, including a Superdrug discount card with up to 30% off our products. You also get loyalty points to use against future purchases every time you use your card. It’s our way of saying thank you. Then there’s a whole package of other benefits, like our pension, holiday package and discount offers.

What is an End Point Assessment?

An End-point assessment (EPA) is the final stage of an apprenticeship. It is an impartial assessment of whether you have developed the skills, knowledge and behaviours outlined in the apprenticeship standard.

Each apprenticeship includes an end-point assessment plan, which describes how you should be tested against appropriate criteria, using suitable methods. These include multiple choice tests, observations, projects and professional discussions.
