Introduction

An exciting opportunity has arisen to be part of the successful Superdrug Supply Chain; working within one of our three busy Distribution centres as a Shift Manager. 

This vacancy is for Stead House Distribution Centre; based in Darlington. The hours of will we be predominantly as stated above but flexibility will be required across all other shift patterns.

About the role

A Shift Manager is a member of the DC's Management team and supports the  Distribution Centre Manager with the Daily management/coordination and long term strategic planning of site operations.

Our operation at SHDC provides stock to over 200 savers stores on a weekly basis. As you can expect this is a fast paced role in a busy environment.

A passion for results will ensure that all specified standards are maintained; if not exceeded.

Working as “One Team” to ensure that operational efficiencies are identified and maximised; encouraging Growth & Innovation within the team, utilising appropriate resource and safe working practices; to help create a Supply Chain that makes our customer smile!  

Keys roles and responsibilities: 

• Coach and develop colleagues, ensuring regular reviews are conducted, implementing and endorsing all agreed training and development plans
• Drive site development through continuous improvement and efficiency initiatives
• Engage all operations across the DC (With a focus on your specific area) to ensure that they are working in a collaborative manner with each other, to provide the optimum output, review the necessity for corrective actions where required
• Collaborate with business key stakeholders to optimise all DC activities and its interface with its other areas of the operation: for example transport, stores & supply chain
• Provide comprehensive handover documents to other shift managers
• Take a strong commercial focus with direct management of the targeted budget cost for your shift, ensuring the successful delivery of KPI's: to contribute towards business strategy
• Role model a site culture that demonstrates our company values
• Be an ambassador for driving good health and safety practices across site
• Driving and leading ad hoc projects and reports where required
• Conduct site and team briefings where required
• Deputise for the Senior Shift Manager or Distribution Centre Manager as required
• Working flexibly to meet the demands of the business.
• Manage employee misconduct by chairing investigation and disciplinary meetings where required.
• Work alongside HR to manage employees absence.

Key skills & attributes: 

• To collaborate fully with the DC's management team and colleagues to support business performance.
• Excellent planning and project management skills
• Excellent analytical and IT skills
• Proven Management experience within a distribution environment or similar
• Ability to communicate and engage effectively, with team and colleagues.
• Strong people management skills
• Good understanding of cost reports, operational efficiencies and cost management
• Sound knowledge of warehouse management systems
• Experience of long term planning and problem solving
