Job Purpose

To effectively lead the Distribution and Transport management teams across all shifts by creating a collaborative environment which enables innovative thinking and problem solving to develop. Inspires your team to be customer focused to meet the overall SLA’s within a specified budget whilst striving to be results driven through continuous improvement of KPI’s.

To be the main senior point of contact for all issues relating to Distribution and Transport.

Key Responsibilities

Oversee the day to day management of the distribution and transport functions including, Assembly, Despatch and Transport.

Work closely with the Warehouse Operations Manager, Shift Managers and Transport Manager to ensure the overall DC and Transport functions are aligned to enable customer service standards are delivered within budget. 

Coach and develop your direct reports, conducting meaningful PDR’s and supporting personal development at every opportunity. Ensure objectives and development plans are communicated and cascaded through the management structure so all team members are clear on how to deliver. 

Lead and engage your teams in the delivery of the Distribution and Transport strategy and any new projects, initiatives or innovations. 

Utilise the management structure to promote an environment where successes are recognised and celebrated with individuals.

Work collaboratively with the DC People Team to identify and manage performance opportunities in a constructive and supportive way.

Be an advocate for the advancement of strong succession planning, development of talent and training opportunities within the Distribution and Transport teams

Work collaboratively and in partnership with Warehouse Operations Managers across all DC and transport networks to ensure continuity, optimising of productivity and to share best practice.

Responsibility for day to day budget control and longer-term cost reduction activity with the DC and Transport functions including Assembly, Dispatch and Transport.

Work collaboratively and in partnership with the Warehouse Operations Manager to ensure that the Stock Management on site meets all auditor requirements and PI is conducted as required.

Drive Health and Safety accountability across the site as well as within your specific Distribution and Transport functions. Work collaboratively with the Health and Safety team to maintain high levels of safety on the site and providing consistent focus on staff wellbeing.

Share the collective responsibility for chairing site meetings with the Warehouse Operations Manager such as health and safety meetings, employee forums, operation briefings and union meetings ensuring appropriate actions for Distribution and Transport operations are addressed. In the absence of the Warehouse Operations Manager you should chair the for-mentioned meetings to ensure continued and consistent management focus is provided.

To maintain overall responsibility of the day to day running of the Distribution and Transport functions and be the main senior point of contact for all issues relating to Goods In, Assembly, Dispatch and Transport functions.
